Four Lost Santas | Amahl and the Night Visitors
Opera Orlando presents the world premiere of Four Lost Santas, a comic Christmas Opera commissioned by Opera Orlando based on an original concept by Gabriel Preisser with music by Spicer Carr and a libretto by Spicer Carr and Rose Freeman. This fun, family-friendly piece is a lead-in to Menotti’s seasonal favorite Amahl and the Night Visitors.
Join a barbershop quartet of Santas who find themselves lost on their way to what should be their big break: SantaCon! They are thankfully rescued by Judy and Rudy, a mother and son who are running late to their community theater production of Amahl. When they can’t fix the Santas’ car, they all pile into the Mom’s car to get into town. They arrive to utter chaos at the theater as the three Kings and Page have quit the production. Rudy is particularly disappointed, but the Santas save the day as they volunteer to sing the roles in Amahl, because of course they have sung them before. As the cast breathes a sigh of relief, the stage manager yells, “Places!” and then begins Amahl and the Night Visitors, a poignant story of a beautiful Christmas miracle. Four Lost Santas/Amahl and the Night Visitors will be sung in English with English and Spanish supertitles.
Ms. Coverini will be performing in the ensemble.

Defiant Requiem: Verdi at Terezín
Opera Orlando is proud to present the Florida premiere of Defiant Requiem: Verdi at Terezín, a concert-drama that combines the magnificent music of Verdi’s Requiem with video testimony from survivors of the original Terezín chorus and footage from the 1944 Nazi propaganda film about Theresienstadt. The work tells the story of the courageous Jewish prisoners in the Theresienstadt Concentration Camp (Terezín) during World War II who performed Verdi’s Requiem while experiencing the horrors of the concentration camps. With only a single score, they performed the celebrated oratorio sixteen times amidst the most horrendous of conditions.
In addition to a full orchestra, and 120 member chorus, the work also weaves in actors who speak the words of imprisoned conductor Rafael Schächter who organized the performances in the camp and others. The piece was conceived and created by The Defiant Requiem Foundation president Murry Sidlin, who will be on stage conducting the Orlando Philharmonic Orchestra, the Opera Orlando Chorus, and members of Orlando Sings.
This work is presented in partnership and with permission from The Defiant Requiem Foundation and serves as a benefit concert for the Holocaust Memorial Resource and Education Center of Florida.
Coverini will be performing as part of the chorus.

The Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers in concert
Opera Orlando presents “The Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers in concert” in collaboration with The Orlando Philharmonic. Composer Howard Shore brings J.R.R. Tolkien’s literary imagination to vivid life with his Academy®- and Grammy® Award-winning score to The Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers. Shore’s music expresses Peter Jackson’s film as an immense symphonic work—a uniquely developed vision drawn from centuries of stylistic tendencies.
Shore’s score not only captures Fellowship’s sweeping emotion, thrilling vistas and grand journeys, but also echoes the very construction of Tolkien’s Middle-earth. Styles, instruments and performers collected from around the world provide each of Tolkien’s cultures with a unique musical imprint. In operatic fashion, these musical worlds commingle, sometimes combining forces for a culminated power, other times violently clashing…and always bending to the will of the One Ring and its own ominous family of themes. Conducted by Murry Sidlin.
Ms. Coverini will be performing in the chorus.
